Frequently asked questions

How is TM Coaching different from music lessons?

Typically in music lessons, you will learn the foundations of your instrument and add to your repertoire. You will meet with a teacher on a consistent basis to continue development in your instrument.

In coaching sessions, you can benefit from just one session, or you may sign up for as many sessions as you'd like. We will cover topics specific to Therapeutic Music. While sometimes this may involve improving on your instrument, we might also discuss business, self-care, and other TM-related topics.

While I can help you on specific goals with your instrument, I encourage those seeking foundational experience to find a teacher. I am happy to recommend online teachers that suit your journey.

I am currently taking music lessons. Can TM coaching still help me?

Yes! I have worked with many musicians who are taking lessons. Lessons are important for you to gain consistent development in your instrument. TM coaching sessions can supplement this development, or we can discuss topics related to your TM training, services, or self-care. In your session I will ask you applicable information, such as what you have been working on in your lessons. I encourage you to keep the communication open by telling your teacher that you are working with a Therapeutic Music Coach.

I'm not yet certified in TM. Can I still benefit from coaching?

Absolutely! I have worked with both students of TM training programs, as well as those who hope to learn more about TM through coaching.

What qualifies you as a Therapeutic Music Coach?

In addition to being certified in Therapeutic Music, I have been a Certified Professional Life Coach for 10 years. Before venturing into the world of TM, I had my own private practice in counseling and coaching. I am thrilled to merge my backgrounds in coaching and music to bring you beneficial and budget-friendly coaching sessions.

For more than a decade, I have been paid by healthcare facilities to offer music. I learned over the years how to market myself professionally and prove that musical offerings are a worthwhile paid vocation. I have also built a fruitful online business, offering therapeutic music videos for relaxation and stress relief.

I have worked hard to stay up-to-date on the latest training for TMs by continuously working on my skills and working closely with the executives of the various TM programs. I am a mentor with the Harp for Healing Clinical Musician Certification Program and also serve on the National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians. My work as an administrator and educator complements my musical offerings, so that I can coach you in a variety of helpful topics.

"I visited an assisted living facility and left some information. I didn’t hear anything back from them, but I found the name of the “life enrichment director” and sent an email as a follow-up. They hired me! I wanted to share this good news with you and thank you for meeting with me for coaching. It was very encouraging to speak to you, and I thank you for helping me move forward!"

"Nicole taught me some very valuable and practical therapeutic harp techniques during the coaching sessions that I had arranged with her. An example of the many things I learned is how to play various modal chord progressions for bedside improvisational playing. Nicole’s manner of coaching is very encouraging, and I felt privileged to be able to glean insights from her vast experience as a harp composer of beautiful and healing harp music."
